Plant growth and appearance

When something isn't quite right, your plants usually let you know before it turns into a real problem.

Here are the most common growing issues—and the simple ways to solve them without unnecessary stress.

Lower leaves are turning yellow or pale

If it's only the older leaves near the bottom of the plant, there's usually nothing to worry about.

This is a natural part of the plant's life cycle.

Simply remove the older leaves from time to time so the plant can focus its energy on new growth.

Leaf tips are turning brown or drying out

Your plant has probably grown too close to the light panel.

Simply trim the top of the plant so the leaves no longer touch the lights.

Even plants need a reminder about personal boundaries from time to time.

Plants are becoming leggy, falling over or have weak stems

There may be too many seedlings growing in the same planting holder.

We recommend thinning out the weaker ones and leaving only the strongest plants to continue growing.

Larger fruiting plants may also benefit from additional physical support.

The plant has stopped growing and started flowering

For fruiting plants, such as chilli peppers, slower growth before flowering is completely normal.

For herbs like basil, we recommend removing flowers as they appear.

Otherwise, the plant will start putting its energy into flowering instead of producing fresh leaves.

Plants are shading each other

Larger plants can naturally block light from smaller ones.

Follow the recommended plant combinations and layouts suggested by the Olí app, or trim larger plants regularly to keep enough light reaching all of them.
